2LG Studio Unveils Plans for London Design Festival Exhibition at Hart Shoreditch

Posted in Events, News on 1 September, 2024

Hart Shoreditch is delighted to announce further details about its upcoming London Design Festival 2024 partnership with creative design consultancy, ‘2LG Studio’, including interactive workshops, a dedicated panel event and launch party.

‘Colour Stories’ serves as the inspiration for the conceptual show ‘SPECTRUM’, which will be unveiled on 27th August at Hart Shoreditch. Open to members of the public as well as guests, Jordan and Russell of 2LG Studio will experiment with new materials and interdisciplinary designs, to explore diversity and inclusivity through the spectrum of colours. Featuring 3D printed works, plant-based upholstery, digital video projection, spoken word, and music, the installation will utilise three key spaces at Hart Shoreditch; the hotel lobby, the stairwell and the hotel lounge. 2LG Studio’s show highlighting new designs by 2LG and their collaborators, culminating in an immersive visual and auditory experience to evoke a personal connection, between the visitor and the exhibition. Aiming to create a safe space for all who visit, 2LG invites guests to explore their own emotional connections to colour, in the inspiring setting of Hart Shoreditch.

The exhibition will include collaborators from Kirkby Design, Fabrication Public, Quentin LaChapele, Lucy Hardcastle, Sheyn and Third Person Upholstery, each focusing on various aspects of 2LG’s vision for the show. The excitement to work on a partnership with 2LG Studio has been felt through the vibrations of all the collaborators.

SPECTRUM Collaborators

Kirkby Design
Led by Brand Director, Jordan Mould, influential British interiors brand, Kirkby Design, has a contemporary and sometimes playful approach to innovative design and colour.

Fabrication Public
Working closely with Fabrication Public for the creation of stools in the hotel lobby, FabPub transforms 3D printed products and innovative interiors to stunning facades and monumental art pieces created with Mixed Reality.

 Quentin LaChapele
Quentin LaChapele, a London-based French composer with a diverse portfolio spanning film, theatre, dance and advertising will be creating a musical soundscape for the exhibition. For the exhibition at Hart Shoreditch, he has said:  “The musical soundscape of ‘Spectrum’ is inspired by the concept of a melodic motif being refracted into different colours, with each introducing a new texture to the music. Each layer organically interacts, creating a flowing work that develops across three movements. At its core, the composition gravitates around the melody derived from our earlier collaboration, ‘Afraid to Make a Sound’ intertwined with a poem and vocal lines by Russell from 2LG. Thematically, the piece delves into notions of peace and empowerment, portraying the journey of healing from self-doubt and insecurities.”

Lucy Hardcastle
Lucy Hardcastle is an interdisciplinary designer and digital artist. Her work focuses on tactility, visual illusions and sensual aesthetics through digital rendered pieces, sculpture, set design and moving image. The film has been created in collaboration with Lucy, to create a visual collection of colour moments alongside a poem that is part of the soundscape for the film spoken by Russell himself.

Sheyn
Sheyn is a Vienna-based design studio, founded in 2016 by Nicolas Gold and Markus Schaffer. The studio utilises the tools and thinking of architecture to create fully digital designs. Each piece is created using state-of-the-art modelling and 3D printing techniques. Sheyn’s contribution to the exhibition will be a series of vases that ombre from green to translucent across the foyer table.

Third Person Upholstery
The pieces for Spectrum are made using a vegan certified PVC which emits 90% less greenhouse gases in its production than fossil fuel based PVC’s, and a sheer textile composed of 60% aloe vera, which is incredibly sustainable. Using ALOE, a ground-breaking, washable, wide-width drapery textile, 60% of which is Aloe vera and 40% organic cotton allows light to filter through, creating minimal blocks of colour. Jane has reimagined a piece as a ‘chrysalis’ with new vegan leather from Kirkby Design.

Visual Film
The exhibition will culminate in a visual film of SPECTRUM, bringing to life the mesmerising design, optical illusions and poetic soundscape in order to create a blissfully captivating universe in the hotel lounge. Inspired by the idea of human connections created through colour and form, 2LG will create and expand upon thematics of linear curvatures, spectral gradients, and abstract distortions to represent patterns within geometric order and nature. The visuals will use a combination of 2D, 3D animation and VFX, allowing them to create surreal, dreamlike imagery. 2LG will focus on the senses in order to create an emotional response from the viewer, the idea of applying this to a spectrum, both of colour and emotions.
