Sparcstudio celebrates the reimagining of The Spa at Coworth Park
Sparcstudio, an independent and creative design studio renowned for excellence in the spa, wellness, hotel, and resort sectors, is delighted to reveal the design story behind its latest project – The Spa at Coworth Park, Dorchester Collection’s luxury country house hotel in the heart of Berkshire.
Set within 240 acres, overlooking the signature Coworth Park wildflower meadow, the space has been designed to reflect the gentle pace of the surrounding countryside, offering a slower, deeper kind of wellness; one that feels connected with nature to provide a deeply restorative sanctuary.
Reimagining existing spaces within the renowned spa, the spa team, led by Teresa O’Farrell, Global Director of Wellness and Spa at Dorchester Collection, wanted to update the spa and add new wellness experiences while creating a sense of place with a strong connection to the beautiful gardens & natural surroundings.
“Sparcstudio really understood the brief to elevate the offer with new wellbeing experiences. They delivered a scheme inspired by nature and the Coworth Park wildflower meadows, which adds another layer of sensory experience and deep luxury and comfort to the spa,” says Teresa O’Farrell, Global Director of Wellness and Spa at Dorchester Collection.
Restorative Pre and post treatment relaxation spaces
The silk-lined spa lounge has been reimagined as a luxurious informal ‘barefoot luxury space’ with a feature bookcase wall and a central fireplace flanked with cushion strewn bespoke sofas. The floor to ceiling windows overlook the gardens and the colour palette and soft textures of the bespoke seating are designed to create a harmonious connection between the interiors and the surrounding landscape.
The addition of bespoke artisan tables with organic texture designed by Sparcstudio, makes it a beautiful space to relax pre and post treatment. A brand-new post treatment deep relaxation zone has been formed housing a suite of Gharieni Satori beds, set into undulating sheers to create soft private niches. The beds offer a deeply immersive, science-backed spa experience that blends cutting-edge technology with sensory relaxation.

The new spa-tisserie café features nourishing menus designed by Coworth Park’s executive chef Adam Smith, offering seasonal salads, vibrant bowls, fresh juices and herbal teas, which can be enjoyed on the sun-drenched terrace overlooking the estate.

Beverley Bayes, Director, Sparcstudio says “We wanted to create a bright, iridescent feel to the pool and thermal area and lead the eye out to the gardens beyond.
Pool and thermal suite
The pool and thermal area is a standout of the new Coworth Park Spa experience, designed to provide ‘Thermal luxury on a high note.’ There’s a Finnish sauna for deep dry heat, a Citrine steam room that ‘feels like bathing in gentle sunlight,’ and a snow room provides a contrast therapy experience with cold fog, snow shower tree & ice font to invigorate the senses.
The bespoke thermal experiences designed by Sparcstudio were formed by Klafs. Each cabin has full height glazing to provide maximum views across the pool and to the gardens beyond. The citrine-lined organic curved steam room features bespoke fresh green and gold mosaic, inspired by trailing planting. The Finnish sauna has soft profiled fine slatted timber profiles that wrap across the walls and ceiling, framing a backlit image of the iconic wildflower meadow. Two sets of Dornbracht multi experience showering zones have been incorporated in curved niches at each end of the Suite.
Beverley Bayes, Director, Sparcstudio says “We wanted to create a bright, iridescent feel to the pool and thermal area and lead the eye out to the gardens beyond. The pool walls are finished in a pale eau-de nil render, overlayered with illuminated mosaic panels, featuring an Amethyst ombre effect, designed to echo the colours and tones of the fifteen huge Amethyst crystals that line the side of the pool and provide a backdrop to the new sumptuous luxury daybeds. Curved walls frame the thermal area and are lined with beautiful huge, fluted profile vertical tiles made by Portuguese Artisans.”
Zoe Jenkins, General Manager, Coworth Park, says “Guests have responded overwhelmingly positively to the spa and in particular our new pool and thermal suite experiences. The striking new colour scheme and atmospheric lighting, expertly crafted by Sparcstudio, create a dramatic nighttime ambiance, with the amethyst hues reflecting across the water.”
Wellbeing fitness and spa harmony
The gym space has been reimagined as a state-of-the-art well-being facility to perfectly harmonize the overall spa design, as a space for both energy and clarity, and features a world first, Technogym’s Luxury Artis range. A Technogym Checkup station supports personalised wellbeing, through intelligent testing of strength, mobility, balance and more, offering a tailored foundation for every fitness journey.
The timber lined full height windows of the newly extended space ensure guests can work-out, whilst feeling immersed by the beautiful gardens and landscape beyond. Slatted timber screens incorporate trailing plants and provide an elegant divider between the pool and gym area.

Bayes says: ‘‘We collaborated closely with Technogym to ensure that there would be a unique ‘wellbeing synergy’ between the design of the fitness space with the new overall spa design that we have created at Coworth Park. The gym interior has been elegantly crafted with a palette of natural and fumed woods with soft, green and copper tones. This forms a perfect back drop to the beautiful sculptural lines of Technogym’s ‘Artis Luxury line’ in a pale “Speckled Stone’’ finish, containing real mica stone particles, giving it a unique shimmering appearance.’’
Fine fluted timber panels wrap around the floors and ceilings, defining the strength zone, and incorporating the equipment shelving and allowing everything to be neatly stored and to hand for the guest.
“For us delivering a premium five-star experience is very much about attention to detail and focus on guest comfort. Our design includes a bespoke hospitality console unit with bench seating, storage for headphones, protein snacks, an integrated chilled sweat towel fridge, chilled water fountain and an elegant metal framed over-counter for the amply stocked towel display,’’ says Tom Howell, Director, Sparcstudio.
The Treatment suite
Eight beautifully refreshed treatment rooms, named after Coworth Park’s flora, from Rose to Bluebell, offer bespoke treatments in partnership with Natura Bissé, ishga, Wildsmith and Made for Life Organics. A ‘Quartz’ Wellbeing room provides an elevated wellness experience with consultation area and a Gharieni Quartz treatment bed as the centre piece. The new mani-pedi room also offers options for hairdressing with a cleverly incorporated fold-away sink.
“Reimagining and refurbishing an award-winning spa like Coworth Park Spa demands a particularly sensitive approach. Our goal was to elevate comfort and luxury, while introducing new wellbeing experiences that would future-proof the offering—without losing the essence of the original design.
We introduced subtle layers of tone and texture throughout: dappled, bespoke rugs; plaster relief panels formed from pressed wildflowers; natural clay-rendered and silk-lined wall finishes. These elements soften the predominantly white interiors, creating a more serene, sumptuous atmosphere for guests,” says Bayes.
