INSIDE ISSUE 61, FROM THE EDITOR
The deeper you dive into a niche, the more you realise how much there still is to learn. When I joined the magazine a little under five years ago, the world of hotel design and development seemed far more black and white than it does today, where the lines between work, home, play and stay are increasingly blurred. The good news for our industry is that hotels hold the key. As people spend less on things and more on memories, travel and meaningful experiences, hospitality has become the product everyone wants a stake in. From fashion activations, co-working spaces, members' clubs, to residential real estate – hotels have become the ultimate hubs of culture and community and, in my view, some of the most interesting, transformative spaces to spend time in today.
No hospitality brand knows this better than Nobu, whose adoring cult following has driven it from restaurant group to 360-degree hospitality giant, today operating hotels, restaurants and residences across the globe. Trevor Horwell, Nobu Hospitality's CEO, shares his take on the shifting market and what's next for the brand. Meanwhile, Bianca Passera, President of Lario Hotels, sits down with SPACE on the roof terrace of their latest opening in Puglia to reflect on her family's long legacy in hospitality and the exhilarating direction taken with new five-star luxury brand, Vista.
Once at the helm of Soho House's design team, Aaron Clarke founded ADC & Tuneu together with his partner in life and business, Marta Tuneu, who spent a decade working in the fashion industry before returning to interiors. They share how each of their disciplines inform and create tension in their work, shaping hotel interiors that are ever evolving. For our SPACES, we take a look at some of the most compelling design projects of today, from the transformed Art Deco icon Hôtel Palais de la Méditerranée in Nice by Linda Boronkay, to Studio Ashby's colourful Tamodi Estate & Polo Reserve in South Africa's Western Cape. Mandarin Oriental The Landmark, Hong Kong, gets a meaningful makeover by Joyce Wang, while Flack Studio's Hannah St Hotel becomes a new mecca of creativity in Melbourne.
Elsewhere, we check in at two of London's hottest openings: St. Clement, Nick Jones's first venture since leaving Soho House, where he is rewriting the codes of hospitality, and Six Senses at The Whiteley, where a brand known for sustainability and serenity stays true to itself in the Big Smoke. Finally, after a long, hot summer, show season is upon us. We have rounded up the best of what is still to come across the remainder of 2026 – where we will be making the rounds ourselves, this issue in tow. See you there.
